Compute Power
- How much revenue your business can generate is constrained by a number of factors including capital expenditure, availability and capability of staff and of course the compute power at your disposal. Basic solutions can only generate a limited amount of productivity, and you will plateau. Competitors may overtake you.
- High end compute platforms can cost millions of dollars. Making the step up to the correct platform to suit your businesses needs is important.
- But what is a compute platform? We’ll it basically refers to a more capable and powerful computer.
- Studies estimate between 4 and 8 percent of annual budgets are generally spent by businesses on IT costs.
- Generally this is done using one or more of the below methods
- In house You can house your Compute infrastructure inside a building that you own. You have total control over every aspect of this, and are responsible for providing and maintaining a suitable environment for the equipment to run efficiently. You can support this with your own staff, an external party, or a combination of both.
- Co-location You can house your infrastructure locally in a purpose built datacentre facility, co-locating with other businesses. The Datacenter company own the building, as well as the shared elements, including power infrastructure, air conditioning, etc. However, you can rent your own rack space and access it physically when you need to.
- Managed Service Provider MSP’s can take care your IT requirements and usually charge a subscription type fee, for which they will provide you support for either part, or all of your IT and business support. On a sliding scale, the more support they provide, the more you pay, normally on a monthly basis. You don’t need to buy any hardware, although the price escalates if you want to use their compute platform.
